# Marking an Email as No Case

> Close out an email that does not belong to any matter, while still keeping the people in it.

## Overview

Not every email that reaches your firm belongs to a case. Vendor mail, referral introductions, and general inquiries still often contain people worth keeping. Marking an email as **No case** lets you clear it from the review queue and save its contacts to your firm directory at the same time.

Contacts belong to your firm, not to a single case. You no longer have to file an email to a matter just to keep the people in it.

***

## Where to find it

Open any email in the review queue. Alongside the option to file the email to a case, you will see the option to rule that it belongs to no case.

***

## How it works

1. Open the email from the review queue.
2. Review the people the email identified.
3. Save any people you want to keep into the firm directory.
4. Choose **This belongs to no case**.
5. The email closes and leaves your review queue.

Anyone you saved is added to your firm directory and is available on every matter going forward, whether or not this email is ever tied to a case.

## Finding it again

Emails marked as no case are not deleted. Use the status filter on the review screen and select **No case** to bring them back into view.

| What you want | Where to go |
| -------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| See everything marked as no case | Review screen, status filter, **No case** |
| Put an email back into review | Open it, choose **Return to queue** |
| Find a person you saved | Firm directory |

## Typical workflow

1. A referral email arrives from a firm you have not worked with before.
2. It contains an attorney and a paralegal you want on file.
3. Save both people to the firm directory.
4. Mark the email **This belongs to no case**.
5. The email clears your queue; both contacts are now available on any matter.

<Note>
Marking an email as no case is reversible. If a matter opens later, use **Return to queue** and file it to the case.
