The **Settlement** tab turns a gross settlement into the client's net, working down through fees, loans, medical bills, and liens as a live waterfall that recalculates as you type. You model it as a scenario, then promote the final one to the case's official record.

## The Waterfall

You enter the **gross settlement** at the top; almost everything below it is calculated for you. From the gross, the waterfall subtracts:

* **Attorney's fees** — the contingency fee (figured on the gross), plus attorney costs, minus any courtesy reduction.
* **MedPay**.
* **Pre-settlement funding** — the payoff across all litigation-funding loans.
* **Medical bills** — each at its agreed payoff or its reduced target.
* **Other claims** — subrogation, any Medicare set-aside, and other deductions.

The final line is the **Net to Client**. You set a few drivers on the side — the carrier, check date, the contingency basis (pre-litigation, post-suit, post-arbitration, trial, or custom), and the reduction target. The app warns you if the modeled gross exceeds the policy limits on file, or if fees would exceed the client's recovery.

## The Check Register

Alongside the waterfall, a **Check Register** builds the disbursement checks automatically — to the client, the firm, lenders, providers and lien holders, and any set-asides — reading the amounts straight from the waterfall and the addresses from the case's contacts. It tells you whether the checks reconcile to the gross. For medical bills you can choose whether a check goes to the provider directly or to a lien holder.

## Loans and Settlement Documents

A **Pre-Settlement Funding** section records each litigation-funding loan with its principal, rate, and payoff — and locks in the payoff figure once you record a payoff letter. A **Settlement Documents** section generates the closing papers — the settlement agreement, release of all claims, and hold harmless — and moves each from generated, to sent, to the executed copy on file.

## Scenarios

You can save the waterfall as a named **scenario**, then load, update, and compare several side by side — handy for showing a client the difference between, say, a policy-limits demand and a trial outcome. When the numbers are final, you **promote** a saved scenario to the actual disbursement record for that claimant. Promoting writes the official settlement figure; locking it afterward freezes the settlement and generates the disbursement checks, and can't be undone.
