# Connecting Google Drive

> How Matter Vault organizes matter folders in Google Drive, repairs the root structure, and handles PI cases.

Every new matter automatically gets its own folder inside /matters/ the moment it is created.

## Repairing the folder structure

If the Matter Vault root folders are missing — for example, if they were accidentally deleted or if your firm connected Drive before this feature shipped — use the **Repair Drive Folders** button in the Google Drive section of Firm Settings. This recreates the root structure without affecting any existing matter folders.

## PI cases — folder structure

PI cases use a different subfolder layout inside their matter folder:

| Folder           | What goes here                                              |
| ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| /Documents       | General case documents                                      |
| /Medical Records | Medical records and bills                                   |
| /Legal Docs | Generated retainers, HIPAA auths, letters of representation |
| /Demands         | Demand packages                                             |
| /Court Filings | Filed pleadings and court documents |
| /Correspondence  | Letters and written communications                          |
| /Settlement      | Settlement agreements and related documents                 |

## Disconnecting Drive

There is no disconnect button — contact support if you need to change the connected Google account.

<Note>
  Matter Vault requests drive.file scope only. This means it can only see files it created — it cannot read or modify anything else in your Google Drive.
