Every matter has a unique email inbox address. When a client forwards emails to that address — or when you CC it on outgoing emails — those messages appear automatically in the matter’s Communications tab.

Finding the matter inbox address

  1. Open the matter
  2. Go to the Communications tab
  3. The matter inbox address is shown at the top of the tab
It looks something like smith-acme-a3f9@intake.matter-vault.com. Every matter has a different address.

Giving the address to your client

You can share the address with your client however you prefer — paste it into an email, include it in your engagement letter, or send it through the portal. A common approach is to ask clients to BCC the address on every email they send related to the matter.

What happens when an email arrives

Emails sent to the matter inbox appear in the Communications tab within a few minutes. Attachments are listed alongside the email and can be promoted to the Documents tab as evidence with a single click.

Sending emails that are automatically logged

If you CC or BCC the matter inbox address on an outgoing email, that email is logged in the Communications tab as an outbound communication. This is a simple way to keep a complete record without any manual entry.
