Matter Vault tracks dates two ways: deadlines you enter yourself, and deadlines the system calculates for you. The most important of these — the statute of limitations on a PI case — gets its own calendar and its own safeguards.

The All Deadlines page shows upcoming dates across every active matter and PI case in one place. The list shows due date, days remaining, the matter, the type, the title, and the lead attorney.
You can search and filter by Type, by Category (Court Deadlines, Case Events, Follow-ups), and by scope.

Add one yourself

Click + Add Deadline and enter a title, type, due date, an optional repeat, and notes.

Let the system calculate it

When the underlying dates are in place, Matter Vault derives deadlines automatically — most importantly the statute of limitations, and follow-on dates like an insurer’s response deadline once a demand goes out.

Hand entries always win

If you ever set one of these dates by hand, the system treats your entry as final and will not overwrite it.

Statute of Limitations

For PI cases, the SOL Calendar lists the statute-of-limitations deadline for every case in one view: the SOL date, days left (shown large and color-coded by urgency), the client, the date of loss, the stage, and the recommended action. A banner at the top flags any case missing an SOL date, because an unknown SOL is a malpractice exposure.

The system calculates the SOL date from the case facts — date of loss plus the applicable period for an adult, the minor’s eighteenth birthday plus the period for a minor, or the date of death for a wrongful death case.
Urgency is color-coded so the most dangerous cases stand out:
  • Critical — 60 days or fewer (red)
  • Warning — 61 to 180 days (amber)
  • Caution — 181 to 365 days
  • OK — more than a year out
  • Filed / Settled — no longer counting down
  • Unknown — no SOL date set, flagged as a risk
On the case itself, an SOL banner appears once you are within 90 days. Inside 30 days it turns red and pulsing, and it cannot be dismissed — by design, so a looming statute cannot be clicked away.

The system stops recalculating

Once overridden, the system treats your entry as final and won’t recompute it from the case facts.
